Firstly, a thorough clinical examination is conducted by the dentist. The suitability for veneers is assessed and any preparatory work is carried out. Your dentist will also be able to advise on material choices, treatment sequence and any other concerns you may have. In most cases an impression of your teeth is taken and a mock up is made; of what veneers in the mouth would look like. This is then given to the patient to have a look at and make sure that they will be happy with the design.
If you are happy with a mock up than a preparation appointment is made. In this appointment, the tooth to be veneered is prepared. In some cases no preparation is required. An impression is taken of the teeth. The impression is then sent to a laboratory where a skilled technician will fabricate the veneer. In the meantime, a temporary veneer is made and fitted onto the tooth. The patient is sent to the lab to get an accurate shade matching for the veneer.
At the next appointment, the temporary veneer is removed and the tooth surfaces cleaned. The completed veneer is tried on the tooth for fit, harmony with the bite, and appearance. Finally, the veneer is cemented onto the tooth with dental cement.
